FAQs Lighting HEADING_TITLE

At what height should I hang my ceiling light/chandelier?
As a guide ceiling lights/chandeliers in living rooms, bedrooms and hallways should   be hung approximately 7 feet above the floor.  The light fitting will look smaller the higher it hangs and larger the lower it hangs.  In a foyer where the second story looks down on the first the fixture should ideally not hang below the second floor.

What size ceiling light/chandelier should I buy for my room?
As a guideline: Room size smaller that 10 ft x 10 ft use at 17" to 20" wide ceiling light/chandelier, Room size 12 ft x 12 fAt use a 22" to 27" wide ceiling light/chandelier, Room size 14 ft x 14 ft use a 24" to 32" wide ceiling light/chandelier.  It is advisable not to use a ceiling light/chandelier that it too small for a room as the light fitting will detract from the look you are trying to achieve.

At what height should I fix my wall lights?
Ideally the bottom of the wall light should be 60" from the floor.  The top of the wall light should be at eye level so you are not looking directly at the bulbs.

How far apart should I space my wall lights?
As a guide to light a hallway hang the wall lights 8 - 10 ft apart and 60" from the ground.

How do I clean my light fixtures?
Make sure the lighting fixture is turned off and the bulbs have cooled down.  The frames of the brass and painted light fittings need only a good dusting.  Do not apply cleaning solutions.  For brass light fittings we dop not recommend brass cleaners or polish.

What size ceiling light/chandelier should I hang over my dining room table?
We would suggest that the diameter of the dining room ceiling light/chandelier should be between half to two-thirds of the width of the table it will hang over.  Go bigger rather than smaller.  The ceiling light/chandelier should ideally be hung between 30" and 34" off the table top assuming you have an 8ft ceiling.  Add 3 inches to the suspension height for each foot of additional ceiling height.
