Conceived for rooms with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with the Refectory there is the option to choose between electric or candle lighting to create a subtle mood change for that romantic or special occasion.
Medieval dining was all about feasts and festivities, with the Refectory range it is easy to re-create a medieval heradlic-style dining room. The design for the Refectory Range of lighting is believe to have originated from the refectories and monastic culture of the middle ages. Communal meals were served in Refectories with the Monks seated on long wooden benches either side of the Rectory table - a highly elongated table. Norman Refectories could be as large as 160 ft long by 35 ft wide. Illuminated was provided by suspended candle beams, wall pickets, candle staffs and candle standards.
